 Lodging
Participants will stay in the historic Avon Hotel in downtown Silverton. Single and double accommodations will be available.  The Avon is being leased and operated by the Mountain Studies Institute.  Transportation to and from the Shenandoah-Dives Mill will be provided.  Evening sessions will be held in the Avon’s meeting rooms.

Meals
Breakfast and dinner will be served at the Avon, prepared by gourmet cook Melissa Childs.  Ms. Childs will also prepare lunches, which will be served at the Shenandoah-Dives Mill. Most special dietary needs can be accommodated. Registration will include an information sheet regarding dietary restrictions.

Tools and Materials
We will provide all necessary tools and materials to be used on site, such as drawing instruments, and hand tools, however you should plan on bringing your own work gloves, eye protection and a sketch book and a writing instrument for taking notes, etc. A checklist will be mailed with confirmation of your registration, although you are always welcome to call with questions. As for background, you'll also get a notebook of reading materials to accompany the workshops and lectures at the workshop.

Transportation
Silverton, Colorado is somewhat isolated with the nearest airports in Durango (50 miles) and Montrose (56 miles).  Arrangements can be made to pick up participants at the airports the Sunday before the workshop and return them the following Friday evening.  Colorado State Highway 550 south from Montrose or north from Durango provides the only access to Silverton.  Both routes are breath-taking, with winding roads and high passes.  Highway 550 is a scenic byway- the San Juan Scenic Skyway, the portion from Ouray to Silverton is also known as the Million Dollar Highway, one of the most beautiful routes in the country!  Please contact us for more travel information, or visit the Silverton Chamber of Commerce on-line at Silvertoncolorado.org.

Weather
Generally, Summer in the San Juan Mountains is warm, and temperatures range from the 60s to 80s.  Summer monsoon rains come and go in the afternoons, and you can expect clear and sunny skies otherwise.  That being said, be prepared for anything, because at 9,318 feet, the weather can change dramatically - even snow!  Bring fleece, hat, sunscreen, and raincoat.
